Fragments and Fraction Fabric

Your scraps will create a stunning piece of fabric.  Bring your leftover threads, pieces of lace, trims, motifs, yarns, ribbons, angelina, unusual textiles -- we need lots of "stuff"!  Also needed are a small rotary mat and rotary cutter, 3/4 yard of solid-colored fabric, and lots of pins.  We will put together a one-of-a-kind incredible work of art as we pin these fun items onto the fabric.  Your new Fragments and Fraction Fabric will be ready to stitch and free motion.

Dyeing for a Close Shave
Fun with Fabric Inks and Cream

We will use inks and cream to create stunning effects.  This process is water-soluble, non-toxic and easy to cleanup.  The color is permanent once it has been heat-set.  The special inks used will allow the fabrics to retain their original soft hand.  The colors are vivid and will not fade over time or multiple washing.  With a base of muslin or white fabric as our palette we will transform it into a one-of-a-kind design.  These newly designed fabrics work wonderfully into quilts, elegant wearable art and unique home-deco projects.  Some students are intimidated with the thought of drawing images, so in Step 2 of this class, we will transfer a design to our new "inked" fabric using the "Color Me Easy" transfer pattern.  Then we add deeper colors to the design using fabric ink pens.  The possibilities are endless.  Bring an apron or an old shirt to protect your clothing.
We use Tsukineko (soo-key-nicko) All-Purpose Ink which is the consistency of water, making it a perfect medium for fabric coloring, acid-free and non-toxic.  The blendability, washability and versatility have made this a favorite among fabric artists and quilters.  Colors become part of the fabric, leave a soft touch and hold their color over time or multiple washing.  The ink must be heat-set on fabric for permanency.  The Fabrico Duel-Tipped Markers feature both a brush and bullet tip, specifically designed for smooth ink flow.  They are perfect for adding details and blending colors.
